Finally the 3rd edition of the most popular yearly event in a country where there's only a single religion (read cricket) has drawn to an end (on the field i mean). Well when one thought that nothing would surpass cricket for once, the thought process was aborted there itself courtesy the commissioner of IPL(ex-commissioner would be more apt). So all that we would remember of IPL3 a few years down the track would be the art of chopping of your own feet with an axe (kulhadi pe paon marna) demonstrated with ultimate perfection by a lean, dark member of BCCI who had revolutionized the way Indians watch cricket - the one and only, Mr. Lalit Modi.
If we analyze the actual cricketing content in this edition then undoubtedly the level of cricket this year was way way better than the previous 2 editions. The competition for a spot in semis was really intense with 7 teams having a realistic chance to end in the top 4(Kings XI was busy trying hard to retain the last spot n were given some tough competition by KKR in the end, but they emerged as the true contenders of the coveted position...:P). The suspense came to a draw only in the penultimate match of the long league stage and this was what really gripped and hooked the followers till the very end. Awesome performances by known geniuses like Sachin, Kallis, Bollinger, Raina, Malinga, Pragyan Ojha, Uthappa (ya, ya evn dada)n emergence of new players like Saurabh Tiwary, Naman Ojha, Murali Vijay, Pollard made sure the supporters had something to cheer about.
Some spectacular innings deserve a special mention. Murali vijay's 120 against rajasthan was stunning due to its pace. Yusuf Pathan's century against mumbai due to its sheer brutality. Sachin's 89 vs rajasthan for the magnificient set up of the hole innings. Dhoni's match winning 54 against KXIP which changed the whole tournament. And many more. Overall the cricket content made IPL3 a really successful event.
But then came Mr. Modi alongwith a really potential weapon (of self destruction), i.e, his tweets (who follows them btw??). When everything seemed to be smooth sailing his single tweet against another very twitter friendly personality (no points for guessing), Mr. Shashi Tharoor started the chaos that has been assuming the shape of a tornado in Indian politics as well as sporting scenes off late.
And finally it has cost both Modi n Tharoor quite dearly. Tharoor has had to resign from his post of Minister of state for external affairs and has been sent to Kerela to revive congress(lol....the reasons these parties come up wid to avoid embarrassment....perhaps a need for ayurvedic massages would have been a better reason...:P). On the other hand Mr. Modi amongst his constant blabbering in media has been suspended as the IPL commissioner and been replaced by Chirayu Amin (didn't Modi ask for it himself?? seems he wants to go for an ayurvedic holiday too...:D).
And trust me all of this could have been completely avoided if Modi hadn't tweeted that single controversial statement. But this is what is destiny my friends (n also people hav got a story to gossip bout before the T20 world cup begins).
Well I have come up with a few expansions for IPL in the light of the current fiasco. "Itna Paisa League, "Ignorant Public League","Insulted n Pissed off Lalit". Would luv to c u ppl add on to the list n thn may b we can recommend it to BCCI...:P.
Hope there is an IPL4 and we get to c at least the good quality cricket that the sportsmen on the field promise. N hope there is a bit more transparency in the proceedings this time....lets c what Mr. Amin has to show now. But one thing is for sure.....the show must go on!!!
I use this blog as a drawing board to paint the picture of the world around me, as visualized by me. It is an honest representation of my feelings and reiteration of my beliefs.

The Great Indian Summer
From the past few days the tiny weeny pores dotting all over my body (ya i m talking bout the sweat glands) have become hyperactive and seem to make me aware of their presence 24x7. Can't remember a moment passing without my whole body being drenched by the slightly salty form of H2O. Whatever may be the activity I am engaged in (this is if u consider sleeping and eating as activities too) the slimy and wet feeling persists and sadly it can't even be ignored (even by those great souls who have mastered the art of not taking a bath for weeks together). The credit for this goes to none other than the Great Indian Summer. The quantities of sweat generated is so huge that collecting all of it produced in our college alone and treating it in a sweat treatment plant for further use, could atleast solve the irrigation problem of half the country.
The past month has been a horrendous experience and is driving me crazy. And then the janta keeps on reminding me that this is just the beginning (courtesy what we have been taught in geography). If this is so then there's absolutely no point in even giving a thought to what would happen in May n June (what's the point in tormenting urself beforehand??)
I am sure my non veg eating fiends can now imagine what a poor lil soul might feel like while getting roasted in a tandoori. It won't be much different from what we are feeling at the moment (not that they would stop savoring kebabs after this realization...:P). Crossing the corridors in our hostel wings to answer nature's call takes a brave heart and lot of determination (suggestion - go for it only after u hav tried negotiating hard with ur bladder to hold on for a bit longer....dun giv in easily...:D). And the feat of walking for 5 minutes in the scorching sun to reach the academic building or even the jhuups would deserve a recommendation for the President's bravery award. Believe me bathing is no longer a way to beat the heat coz just tell me how does one take a bath wid water at boiling temperatures and xcpct to cool off?? (and this is if u r lucky nough to find sum water in the hostel taps....usually u can sight a few droplets for an hour a day or so....i m nt exaggeratin at all...:P ) U need special thick skin and a lot of guts to even hav an attempt at that.
Dunno why but I have been listening to many rain songs recently (kale megha- lagaan, saajish hai boondon ki- fanaa, tip tip barsa paani, pyaar hua ikraar hua, rim jhim rum jhum n many more.....contact me for the complete list...:P). May b i m doin so in the hope that my speakers would do the work of Tansen here and instigate the rain Gods to shower us roasted souls with a few drops of water. That's not asking much am sure. And some cool breeze along with it would be the perfect combo one can ask for. Now am being greedy. But we deserve a respite once in a week at least, dun we?? I agree we ourselves are somehow responsible for this misery (read global warming) but then we can't xcpt God to have such a revengeful attitude na.
Watsay that we file an RTI demanding him to showcase the amount of water-vapour(clouds) he has in his possession currently. Then we could use the media to pressurize him for a bit of rain. And if even that fails then we could demand a quota for rain in summer(30% should do...:P). And as a last solution we could always join our hands and pray to the almighty to consider our petition for rain. Hope any one method would definitely work (otherwise chances are high that I won't b there to celebrate an anniversary of my blog). Well do let me know ur experiences with heat too so that we can share the plight together. Now I can't even ask u ppl to chill out or njoy....so just bear wid the GIS (and curse it wid all the curses that hav ever been invented...thts the least we can do for sure...:D).

A Teetotaler's take on "Daroo parties"
A strange topic for the 2nd post, must hv bn ur initial reaction, isn't it?? Well I agree....but its a tribute on my behalf to all my frnds(read drunkards...:P) bfr passing out.
5,10,15 or 20...I have actually lost the count of the number of so called "daroo parties" tht I hav attended in the last 2 years spent at college. Its been an integral way of celebrating almost anything out here...be it job treats, b-day parties, the end of xams, the beginning of holidays, the return back to hostels after vacation, tie- up wid a new girlfrnd, break up wid an older one(ppl used to manage wid a treat on the same day for both the reasons just mentioned...:P ), boredom(the most common one) and many times widout any reason at all.
Now dun get carried away by the fact that being a teetotaler i won't be able to give u a first hand account of these trts. Believe me no one is in a better position than me to describe these affairs having witnessed each one of them in complete awareness (on many occasions i had been the only man standing at the end). Though I have had to go through the routine of "why don't u join us", "one peg wont matter", "u dunno wat u r missing", countless no of times, still my sanity prevailed and i remained stuck wid my decision of being a non drinker. Coz i think i get to enjoy a lot even widout drinking and doing so just for the sake of it doesn't make sense to me...:)
Well every daroo party began wid a hot discussion (remember fish market GD??) on which category of drink to go for n the brand of choice. The ones wid a supreme command on the subject (a special mention of Podu, Puran, Om) finally took the call on the so called beverage menu. Then came the scramble for money as usually all the students seem to have a pocket tailor made to remain penniless. After sorting out the financial crisis the next step would be to organize the import of the "stuff" into the hostels wid utmost care. While the ones staying at hostel would work on building the ambiance (covering the tubelights wid brown papers, laying newspapers on the floor, setting up the speakers n laptop, arranging the cold-drinks and chakna).
Then came the moment when the things finally set to roll. One amongst us tuk the responsibility of a DJ(a really thnkless job i tell u...u get to hear a lot of abuses if the public dosen't share ur taste of music...especially aftr 90% of them r out of their senses...:D). Gradually pegs aftr pegs get consumed in a jiffy (i contented myself wid neat packs of soft drinks...my fav bein coke on the rocks...:P). People strt loosening themselves n the real fun begins.
From the observations I have made during these 2 years, there are usually 4 preferred ways in which the junta usually goes bout while consuming alcohol...
1)slow drinkers keeping to themselves n njoyin the moment
2)tankis - ones taking pegs after pegs n remaining completely unaffected
3)the ones who drink less but blabber more than necessary portraying to be out wen they r far from being so (statutory warning: these r the most dangerous breed of drinkers, better try avoiding them...:P)
4)overenthusiastic ones who r more interested to get others drunk n in the mean while forget their own purpose fr being present at that place
Believe it or not, at such parties no one seems to have two left feet as far as dance is concerned. Everyone moves his body in rhythmic contortions along-with the tunes played courtesy Mr. DJ. Steps wilder than the snake dance and the baraati dance get invented in matters of seconds and would put any leading choreographer to shame in terms of the sheer imagination used in it(Vibhor, chaap, podu, beta,om bhaiya deserve a mention in this category). And the dance goes all night long (cant remember a daroo party ending before 4 in the morning). The worst part is wen people get emotional and start crying or wen u get stuck wid a single person. U wil get to knw his life history within those couple of hours and will be tormented so badly that u wished u had a time machine so that u could go back or furthr a couple of hours.
Finally comes a gruesome and arduous task, of which I have to be a part on most occasions. And this is to take care of the one's wasted n drunk (read out). They lie scattered like gunny bags and one needs to pick them up and see to it that they get safely deposited on a bed. The ones who need to puke have to hung from the balconies till they cant puke anymore. And then the mess has to be disposed off with.
But then all this is what makes these treats so special. N these were one of the critical reasons for the strong bonding the electrical engg guys shared. College life wouldn't have been this fun widout these. My stint wid engineering wouldn't have been complete if I hadn't attended these daroo parties. I am surely gonna miss them n wish I attend some more in the future(but being a teetotaler....:P).

The last 10 days
Well its not exactly wise to have my first blog bout the last 10 days of my stint with college lyf......but couldn't help it.....:)
To begin with I had no plans or intentions ever to be an engineering graduate. The day i was old enough to decide on my profession, medicine was the only line I could picture myself in. My father being a doc and my role model, this was but natural for me. But fate had quite different plans for me. And 4 years down the line, "here I am". An electrical engineer from NIT Durgapur. And the tip of the iceberg is that now I am going to join XLRI for the PMIR course and wil finally be an HR guy. Its like I started my journey for US but instead reached Australia. It couldn't have been more in contrast to my initial inspirations. But never the less, I have no regrets whatsoever.
But what this destined swap of my career led to was that I could never put my soul into engineering despite trying pretty seriously to do so and giving it more than a single chance. It never appealed to me. I was at a good government institute where people really want to get into but somehow or the other I couldn't motivate myself to love engineering. So now though I almost have a degree (still the end terms to go....:(....:X), I have absolutely no concept of engg....none at all. So, I am damn happy that I got into XLRI and can now pursue something I am really interested in. I desperately needed this break.
Well I c I have completely lost the track of my post. It has no sync at all wid the topic I had chosen for it. So getting back to that. Well, I mayn't be an ardent lover of engineering as a profession but I luvd every bit of the 4 yrs of college life. These 4 years have taught me much more than academics. I have learnt the meaning of friendship, learnt wat it means to share, wat is companionship, how to take the good as well as the bad things in ur stride,to take risks, to enjoy every moment u hav n to love life....:)
N leavin this all in the next 10 days isn't goin to be an easy task......i will miss the afturnun nap, the masala maggi at jhuups, the everlastin bakar and discussions ranging on topics from politics to sports to the most obvious one - girls and whatnot, the grudges on profs, the plans for weekends, the movie sessions, the stints at night jhuups at 3 in the morning, the electrical get togethers, the 29 adda, scuffling for a piece of anything edible, the treats n the demands for it, the b'day GPLs, watching n playing cricket together.......phew the list is endless n i knw ur tym is precious......i hope u hav got the essence of wat i mean to say.....:)
So plannin out my nxt 10 days is gonna be an arduous task........wat wid xams startin frm monday......still wil try to soak in it till the last moment......and hope its memories will b strong nough to last a lyftime.....wish i had 10 more days (had it bn thn i wld hav wished to hav 10 more agn).......!!
