Sometimes in the journey of life,
Comes a point when you no longer want to strive,
Engulfed by impenetrable darkness around,
You search for that faint familiar sound.
A time when you need someone to be there,
To hold on to to your dreams and castway the fear,
A hand to grip and guide your soul,
A ray of hope to take care of it all.
A ray so strong to not let you stumble,
To become your voice when you begin to fumble,
A ray with warmth like your mother's arms,
To cuddle and sleep away from worldly norms!!
Sam's point of view
I use this blog as a drawing board to paint the picture of the world around me, as visualized by me. It is an honest representation of my feelings and reiteration of my beliefs.

A mixed bag of feelings
Well here I stand on the verge of beginning another crucial journey of my life. And wid it come the apprehensions, doubts, hopes n promises that usually accompany a decision of such importance. On one hand lie the hopes of 2 fruitful n fun filled years wid an insight into a world I had longed to b a part of and on the other a lot of fears n silent worries poke their ugly head.
I can feel the same anxiety that gripped me 4 years ago when I had stepped out of my cosy belongings for the first time. Though the context is a bit different here n I m on the way to pursue sumthing which I lyk but still leaving for uncertainty is definitely not the easiest of calls. I am assured of a good future by everyone I have spoken to recently. But deep widin me sumwhr thr r some seeds of doubt which give rise to questions such as "whether I will b able to match the high standards at XLRI?", "will I b able to exist in such a competitive environment?", "what wil b the result at the end of 2 yrs?", "is this gamble worth the risk?" n many more. But then this was my own call. So I have no complaints but u knw "Dil to bachha hai ji"(kuchh jyada hi filmi ho gya na.....:P...:D)
Also the situation is such that I hav absolutely no clue as to wat is in store ahead for me. I hav no xpctations whatsoever xcpt that i learn as much as possible n b in a position to b the best in my field. Hope this journey turns out to b as gud as it promises. Wil definitely miss home n my parents n bro but thn that is the norm, isn't it? One has to venture out eventually n my tym has come. Wish my bro all the luck in the world n hope he gets whatever he deserves. Wish my parents get all the happiness in the world n hope I keep fulfilling my duties as an obedient son.
Wid a million dreams in my eyes I start a long journey ahead of me.
Bidding goodbye only wid promise of returning soon. c ya everyon. Au revoir!!

Differentiating dull and dumb
I am sure all of u myt hav come across specimens from both the groups of people that I am going to describe very specifically in the rest of the article. There's a pretty thin line but a really significant one differentiating the 2. U r tolerable if u happen to be on the ryt syd of the line. But an inch into the wrong one n u wil b a gonner.
Actually the inspiration for this article happened to be the driver of a vehicle we had hired very recently for a trip to Siliguri. I had no doubts in ascertaining his category n no points for guessing which one it turned out to b. A dull person takes time in understanding things but eventually he gets it. The problems wid dumbos is tht they just dun wanna giv a shot to the process called understanding. What happens is that finally u wanna hit ur head on a wall n die rather than try making things comprehensible for that person. N this is wat happened on the trip wid me. The worst one was wen he almost drove us to Naxalbari on our way back, inspite of our repeated warnings to en-quire bout the ryt way coz he was either too adamant or blessed wid an IQ on the ryt syd of the decimal point. (Thank God we turned back at the ryt tym)Till the end of the journey he wasn't able to distinguish between ac switch n that of the music system.
Here's a list then which should help u identify 1 from the other. Hope u find it useful:
DULL:
• People who don't participate in conversations usually coz they aren't interested.
• Slow in understanding but eventually do.
• U get bored in their company.
• Harmless.
DUMB:
• People who don't participate in conversations usually coz they have absolutely no idea bout wat a conversation is.
• Understanding means??
• Being jailed is a much better option belive me.
• Should be banned.
So now u knw wat to do wen u find someone wid the symptoms mentioned in column b. RUN !!!
I know I m being rude or may b even a bit arrogant. But believe me I hav no such intentions to b either. Its just that I had been irritated beyond measures n need a vent out. So my apologies if I hav hurt anyon's sentiments.(U wer nt supposed to read this n understand it in the 1st hand if i hav.....:P :D)
A dull person is a boring company but a dumb one is infuriating. Its difficult to spend time wid a dull one but its impossible to do so wid the latter. Be warned against such species of persons n hope u dun meet one soon in ur lives. Would luv to knw sum of ur experiences so plz share if u hav any. (come on u can tell me...:P)

F for family n F for fun
Back after a long vacation and a well deserved break from the monotones of life. 10 days of fun and frolic spent with people most valued by me. I definitely couldn't have asked for more....coz m nt tht greedy....:P
The trip had been long planned and had to be rescued from the pits a lot many times after being shelved for some reason or the other. At times my younger brother's xam caused a problem or else my uncle had a tour of Ireland and London scheduled or the arrival of monsoon in Munnar posed an obstruction. But somehow by God's grace n due to the pestering efforts of a representative in each of the three units, we could finally have it as planned.
A brief intro of the 3 units may interest u. Let me call the 1st one as Mumbaikars (Note: the use of mumbaikars instead of mumbaiyas is intentional as the "kars" of mumbai give the city a better identity according to me....:D). This group includes my uncle Aditya, aunt Rajni, cousin Anurag (the difference between his n my age is that of a full adult, 18 yrs....:P) n my grandma. The 2nd one is the Sambalpuris consisting of my older uncle Arun, aunty Krishna n cousins Aarti n Abhishekh. N the final group "Farakkans" included my papa, mummy, bro n myself. So all in all cricket team with a twelfth man forms our family. (The units will henceforth be addressed by their names.)
The trip began wid everyone arriving at mumbai n clustering in the newly purchased two n a half bedroom apartment of the Mumbaikars. Well u can imagine the hugs n greetings n xcited chantings tht followed. Total chaos engulfed the household n the water scarcity in Mumbai was just the thing we needed. Completing the morning chores itself proved to be a horrendous task but somehow we got thru it n reached the R City mall for spending our 1st weekend. A game of balling n some shopping proved to b the ryt blend to pep up the mood of members of both the genders. Next we had planned a trip to lonavala n khandala for the next 2 days n so the preps for it began.
My uncle's Indigo was certainly insufficient to accommodate 9 adults n 3 kiddos n so arose the need to book a cab. So our small caravan of 2 vehicles began its journey towards lonavala on 24th noon. But God was in a playful mood and my uncle's car stopped in the middle of the road not once but thrice n I n my brother had to push it wid all our might each time. Though the task seems arduous, both of us had gr8 fun doing so (Our only mistake was that we admitted this in public n so were given the chance to have fun an additional dozen no of times dotted throughout our trip.....:P). The next 2 days were wat every family dreams of. I had never imagined I could have so much fun wid my family. We jumped into the pool as sun as we checked into the resort n had every possible amount of creative idea applied in it in the 2 hours we spent there. Running race, holding ur breath, lock n key n water splashing were the main events of the 'pool games 2010'. N even my uncles n aunts behaved as kids participating in the same. This was followed by some group games conducted by the people at the resort n singing wid the guitar. The next day was dedicated to masti in a water park (wuld u believe tht the water park was also the venue for a wedding tht day....i lyv the rest to ur imaginative powers.....:D). The view from Lion's point was sumthing I will never forget n the atmosphere was just perfect for a get together.
The rest of the days then passed along in a hurry wid many more visits to malls, Haji Ali, Irla, the usual Nariman point n bandra bandstand, n many more rounds of gossiping till 3 in the nyt. A fashion parade n a potoshoot ryt after my aunts b'day celebrations pepped up this lovely vacation. All in all I was not bored for a single minute all throughout my trip n loved every moment of it. Dunno wen wil I get to spend such quality tym wid my family members again. But I hope the tym comes soon enough. As one grows older one realises the importance of people that really matter in 1's lives n the relations tht one must value. M glad tht I belong to such a wndurful family n wish It stays as united as now......luv u guys....:)

I can c the world dying...
Its been a while since my last post. And this isn't coz m too busy with anything. Rather it was due to the blankness in terms of lack of any new ideas in the lazy atmosphere at home on one hand and the soaring temperatures on the other. The unbearable heat led me to ponder (i know this is lame but I had no better work to do....:P) over the situation as well as the reason that had led to it in the first place. A casual look around myself (including the idiot box) was enough to prove that things around us are not perfectly alright. Something's up with them. The world is no longer the same place it used to be a decade or two back. And then I realized the world is dying.....slowly but steadily, suffocating under its own weight, unable to bear the atrocities of the most intelligent species...its giving up finally and so I thought at least a tribute from my side would do it no harm.
A deep thought about the same(ya i do tax my brain at times...not quite often though...:P) revealed that the problems faced at the global level today are multi faceted and have spread their roots so deep within that they seem to be cancerous and are gripping the whole of humanity at such a fervent face that we are left with no other option than staring at the painful death of our own abode. Climate change and global warming are just one of the many issues threatening our very own survival. On one hand natural disasters like famines, floods and tsunamis are becoming rampant whereas on the other man made disasters like wars, terrorism, anarchy and recession are taking its toll. The time has come for a close introspection of the same before its too late and we won't have the time to repent. Pictures speak more than words and that is why I present a collection of pics depicting the various global issues.
1) Well here is a proof of the effect of global warming and the soaring global temperatures (a rise of bout 1.66-6.4°C is predicted in the near future). And this can have devastating effects of magnitudes far beyond our imagination with a chance for a considerable chunk of coastal areas to get submerged forever.

This image shows the Pedersen Glacier,Kenai Fjords National Park,Alaska in summer 1917 and summer 2005. The change is pretty alarming, isn't it?
An effect of drought in India can be visualized in the next pic and the condition of the farmer is enough to get an idea of his plight.

And the reason for this is the overzealous deforestation, extensive industrialization and unrestricted use of fossil fuels.
If this is not sufficient enough then we do offer solutions in terms of terrorism and unnecessary wars leading to huge losses of manpower, resources and God knows what.

Why don't the people give themselves a much needed break? Why don't they channelize their energy towards trying to solve the more persistent problems rather than killing each other? Whats the use of fighting in the name of religion or for some territorial advantages? How can the developed nations just ignore the problems of the deprived nations where millions starve and are unable to afford one square meal?

Well may be there's no use asking such questions coz there's no one to hear them in this power thirsty world. I just hope the mankind realizes this before its too late and we loose this world forever coz then they would have no one else to blame but themselves. We have lived for our sake pretty long and sucked mother Earth for decades together. Now its our turn to pay back and do something so that our future generations can have a glimpse atleast of what we used to call forests and what we knew as animals. Let us live a sustainable and meaningful life and stop draining our energy and intelligence over baseless issues. The time has come when the world needs us as much as we need it and lets not disappoint it. Otherwise we will be left with no option other than lamenting the death of the world...and that certainly wont help!!

Lost and Found
The last week has been a real mixed bag for me. A mixed bag of activities as well as emotions. These 7 days have separated me from innumerable number of things. But on the same hand I have discovered new ones too. It has been that sort of state of mind where I am stuck between feelings. Am unable to comprehend the situation and am in a real fix as the differences between many things have blurred. I know I am sounding too philosophical. But I assure u that it is not at all intentional. I am expressing just what I am going through right now. Let me try and recollect the things I have lost and found in this process.
Well the first and foremost thing that I have lost is the time I used to spend with my friends. I can't be with them even if I want to, even though I have all the time in the world to. I can't engage in pointless gossips and arguments with my buddies coz no one's there to listen to me. No more late night movies hanging on to a single bed laughing and crying together, no walks around the campus, no one to comment and stare at girls with....:P, no one to fight for a small share in anything and everything edible, no one to pass ur bills to, no one to criticize the profs with, no one to share ur PJs with, no one to pull my legs and no shoulder to lean on to in times of need. I have lost the right to waste my time without a hint of guilt, to stay awake all night and sleep till the evening, to sing aloud in the classrooms,to bunk classes at my will. I have lost my innocence and the carefree nature. I have lost my most wonderful days when sun shone the brightest. But then losses are a part of life. And everything gained has to be lost at one point of time. The time for me has come.
I may or may not have asked for it but I have discovered a few things in my journey. I have found the joy in sharing, the love in companionship, the trust in friendship and the emotions in relationships. I have found that there's much more to life than being a self centered moron. I have found my responsibilities and the will to face them. I have found a goal, a path and the right way to walk on it. I have found maturity, understanding and patience. I have found the strength to handle the toughest of situations and the determination to follow my call. Finally I have found friends whom I wanna cherish forever.
Though it has not been a win-win situation for me, I have no complaints from the four years of my life that I spent in an institute called NIT Durgapur. And what I have got from it is not a mere B.Tech degree but a way to lead my life. I believe this journey has changed me and I hope this change is for the better. Adieu NITD. I owe u a lot. And I may never be able to repay back but I assure u that ur memories remain etched wid my soul forever !!

Au revoir, IPL3, I miss u !!
Finally the 3rd edition of the most popular yearly event in a country where there's only a single religion (read cricket) has drawn to an end (on the field i mean). Well when one thought that nothing would surpass cricket for once, the thought process was aborted there itself courtesy the commissioner of IPL(ex-commissioner would be more apt). So all that we would remember of IPL3 a few years down the track would be the art of chopping of your own feet with an axe (kulhadi pe paon marna) demonstrated with ultimate perfection by a lean, dark member of BCCI who had revolutionized the way Indians watch cricket - the one and only, Mr. Lalit Modi.
If we analyze the actual cricketing content in this edition then undoubtedly the level of cricket this year was way way better than the previous 2 editions. The competition for a spot in semis was really intense with 7 teams having a realistic chance to end in the top 4(Kings XI was busy trying hard to retain the last spot n were given some tough competition by KKR in the end, but they emerged as the true contenders of the coveted position...:P). The suspense came to a draw only in the penultimate match of the long league stage and this was what really gripped and hooked the followers till the very end. Awesome performances by known geniuses like Sachin, Kallis, Bollinger, Raina, Malinga, Pragyan Ojha, Uthappa (ya, ya evn dada)n emergence of new players like Saurabh Tiwary, Naman Ojha, Murali Vijay, Pollard made sure the supporters had something to cheer about.
Some spectacular innings deserve a special mention. Murali vijay's 120 against rajasthan was stunning due to its pace. Yusuf Pathan's century against mumbai due to its sheer brutality. Sachin's 89 vs rajasthan for the magnificient set up of the hole innings. Dhoni's match winning 54 against KXIP which changed the whole tournament. And many more. Overall the cricket content made IPL3 a really successful event.
But then came Mr. Modi alongwith a really potential weapon (of self destruction), i.e, his tweets (who follows them btw??). When everything seemed to be smooth sailing his single tweet against another very twitter friendly personality (no points for guessing), Mr. Shashi Tharoor started the chaos that has been assuming the shape of a tornado in Indian politics as well as sporting scenes off late.
And finally it has cost both Modi n Tharoor quite dearly. Tharoor has had to resign from his post of Minister of state for external affairs and has been sent to Kerela to revive congress(lol....the reasons these parties come up wid to avoid embarrassment....perhaps a need for ayurvedic massages would have been a better reason...:P). On the other hand Mr. Modi amongst his constant blabbering in media has been suspended as the IPL commissioner and been replaced by Chirayu Amin (didn't Modi ask for it himself?? seems he wants to go for an ayurvedic holiday too...:D).
And trust me all of this could have been completely avoided if Modi hadn't tweeted that single controversial statement. But this is what is destiny my friends (n also people hav got a story to gossip bout before the T20 world cup begins).
Well I have come up with a few expansions for IPL in the light of the current fiasco. "Itna Paisa League, "Ignorant Public League","Insulted n Pissed off Lalit". Would luv to c u ppl add on to the list n thn may b we can recommend it to BCCI...:P.
Hope there is an IPL4 and we get to c at least the good quality cricket that the sportsmen on the field promise. N hope there is a bit more transparency in the proceedings this time....lets c what Mr. Amin has to show now. But one thing is for sure.....the show must go on!!!
